Control. Who wouldn’t like a little more control in their life? Financial control, parental control, career control….
Control is the power to influence or direct the course of events. It’s pretty rare to find someone who doesn’t want to control the unknown. The unknown can be scary. We all stand at various points in our life unable to see what’s coming next. It’s at these times we worry about making the “right” choice or fear doing the “wrong” thing.
Mountain climbers use Sherpas to guide them through challenging and unknown journeys. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had our own Sherpa, a good friend to guide us through our journey? Someone who we trusted with our lives?
Fortunately, we do…the Holy Spirit.
God sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, to teach us, and remind us to let go of the outside worries, to let go of the need for control. When we do that, we can focus our energy on giving God our best effort daily.
When we Trust his guidance, whole new worlds and experiences open up before us.
Ask God to give you the faith and courage to follow Him wherever He leads you.
Trust Him.
Verse
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.Jeremiah 29.11
In 1951, the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr wrote the following prayer: God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
Take courage
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in my humanness, I feel the need to control my life. Help me to recognize my life today is a gift from you. In return, I pledge this day to you, to use me where you need me. I trust in Your promised plans, to prosper and not harm me, Your plans for my future and for perpetual hope. Give me the willingness to accept with grace and serenity the things that I cannot change. Inspire the fire to see and change the things that I can, trusting you to guide me through this life into the next.

With the advance of cultural indifference, or even hostility toward religion and spirituality, our Church has been a little slow to respond. We depended on each generation to evangelize the next generation, and often enough, other cultural values eclipsed the message of the Gospel. We hope that our "Like and Share" project might reach some folks who are searching for something deeper in life. Perhaps some will even join us at Mass for another look.
